New Masonry Engineering Course – Sold out with 55 Students!
Course Description: Introduction to design of structural elements for masonry buildings, including lintels, walls, shear walls, columns, pilasters, and retaining walls. Reinforced and unreinforced elements of concrete or clay masonry are designed by allowable stress and strength design methods. Introduces construction techniques, materials, and terminology used in masonry.
Learning Objectives / Outcomes After completing this course, students will be able to
- Identify masonry types and components of masonry assemblies.
- Gain a basic understanding of the materials used to fabricate masonry assemblies, and the materials test procedures for obtaining material properties for design.
- Design reinforced and unreinforced elements of concrete or clay masonry by allowable stress and strength design methods.
- Demonstrate knowledge gained in the course through a hands-on laboratory or design project.
- Gain understanding of practical considerations for constructability and durability of masonry.
