CMC Board Names Kim Spahn Chief Executive Officer

MAY 31, 2023 – The Concrete Masonry Checkoff (CMC) Board is pleased to announce its appointment of Kim Spahn as its first chief executive officer (CEO). Spahn’s tenure takes effect mid-June, just as the CMC Board of Directors is finalizing its strategic plan.

The Board undertook an exhaustive national search that attracted more than 300 applicants. Spahn quickly emerged as the top choice given her unique background and skill set.

“We really valued Kim’s perspective as a civil engineer with a deep technical acumen,” said Kendall Anderegg, vice chair of the CMC Board. “But when you couple that with her track record of transformation and ability to act on big-picture, creative thinking, it became apparent that she was made for this role.”

Spahn joins CMC after spending the past 17 years leading the American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA), cultivating trusted partnerships with industry stakeholders, government agencies and elected officials throughout North America.

She served most recently as ACPA vice president of operations, supporting the executive committee and spearheading state directors, while immersing herself in regional management responsibilities and budgets. She led several key initiatives collaborating with the ACPA board and committees, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) to drive the goals of ACPA and its foundation forward.

Major Ogilvie, chair of the CMC Board, was also impressed with her background and immense experience she can bring to the role. “Kim is a leader, and she demonstrates this time and time again, not only her experience but with the way she carries herself.”

Upon accepting her role, Spahn said, “Sometimes things happen for a reason — I couldn’t have imagined a better fit personally or professionally. I cannot wait to work alongside this talented group to restore block’s prominence.” Collaborative by nature, Spahn cites the national Board and its Regional Advisory Committees, the Department of Commerce, and industry associations as key partnerships that will enhance all efforts with innovative research, education and promotions. “This growth will unite and support the communities where our manufacturers supply the safest, most resilient and sustainable building product in the world,” Spahn said.

Family plays an important part in this new venture. Kim and her husband, Dan, live with their two children just south of Denver, Colorado. Outside of work, the Spahns spend most of their time outdoors mountain biking, hunting and snowboarding.
