SUMMARY:Masonry Masterclass: Cleaning Masonry Walls
DESCRIPTION:Masonry construction is economical\, strong\, and durable\, and masonry walls provide fire resistance\, sound dampening\, and thermal insulation. But perhaps the primary feature of masonry is its unmatched natural beauty. Cleaning masonry after construction is an essential step to enhancing and preserving that beauty\, and choosing the correct cleaning method is important to make sure that you end up with the look you want. In this seminar we will discuss the top three methods for cleaning new construction\, additional techniques to use in special situations\, and review the “Five Golden Rules” for cleaning masonry. \nLearning Objectives\n1.    Specify 3 different cleaning methods for newly built masonry.\n2.    List the difference between cleaning concrete masonry and brick construction.\n3.    Describes the dangers of improperly washing walls.\n4.    Specify the steps for properly cleaning new construction. \nYou don’t want to miss this class! Note: This class is eligible for 1 AIA LU/HSW or RMMI continuing education credit. If you provide your AIA membership number upon registration\, RMMI will submit documentation to AIA/CES for your credit. All attendees will receive a certificate upon completion of the live webinar. \nPresented by Michael Schuller\, Atkinson-Noland & Associates\, Inc. \nWhen: Wednesday\, April 9\, 2025 at 11:00am-12:00pm \nLocation: Zoom \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Mortar\, Grout\, and Field Testing
DESCRIPTION:Mortar and grout are integral components of reinforced masonry construction\, yet there are common misconceptions about how these materials function and what materials are best to specify. Attend this special webinar to learn about building code and ASTM requirements\, what you need to specify for quality assurance in the field\, and how to choose the best mortar and grout formulations for your project. We will explain when Type S mortar is preferred over Type N\, learn how to specify grout strength\, and how important it is to provide a “workable” mortar that is easiest for the mason to use. The webinar will end with a recap of field testing requirements and some things to watch for as mortar and grout are sampled at the jobsite for testing. \nLearning Objectives \n1. Specify when to use Type N and Type S mortar on projects. \n2. List the qualities that make masonry mortar “workable.” \n3. Determine required grout compressive strength. \n4. Design quality control requirements for mortar and grout \nLocation: Zoom \nJoin here.
